The Path Worth Taking!

open field with wildflowers and mountain range

When you think of San Diego, what comes to mind? Our bet is the perfect weather, beautiful beaches and maybe some popular attractions like the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. Although these are some of our cherished aspects of San Diego, there is much more to uncover. If you are looking to expand your horizons and explore beyond the typical San Diego experience, we suggest adding County Route S2 to your itinerary during your next visit.

Route S2 stretches more than 65 miles through the greater East San Diego County. As you make your way along this desert highway, famous hot springs, parks, wildlife and captivating roadside attractions begin to unfold. This beautiful route is not only a great way to experience the stunning natural beauty of the region, but it also provides opportunities to support local businesses. So pack up your family, fill up the tank, and let’s embark on this exciting road trip!

Warner Springs:

Located 76 miles from Coronado Beach Resort, Warner Springs marks the beginning of Route S2. This small and charming community offers visitors a chance to enjoy a variety of activities and attractions. Warner Springs is known for its natural hot springs, which provide a peaceful and relaxing environment surrounded by nature. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as wine tasting, golfing or hiking in the area. With its scenic location and diverse range of activities, Warner Springs is a great starting point for a memorable journey along Route S2.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park:

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California covering over 640,000 acres of desert landscape. This state park is a nature-lovers paradise, with several hiking trails offering breathtaking views of mountain ranges and canyons. Visitors can also explore the park’s unique geology, ecology, and cultural history. Visiting this spring? Don’t miss the chance to step and smell the flowers! Anza-Borrego Desert is known for the wildflower bloom during the months of February – April. This makes the perfect stop for families, as it features a wide range of activities for all ages and interests.

Julian:

Wrap up the trip by taking some time to wander through the quaint town of Julian. Enjoy a delicious meal with the family at one of the town’s local restaurants, such as our personal favorite, Julian Beer Co. And be sure to save room for a slice of Julian famous apple pie! In addition to culinary delights, Julian also offers a variety of hiking trails, a few wineries and educational activities for visitors to enjoy.

Please remember to leave no trace and take only memories! Please leave the wildflowers for others to enjoy and do not approach wildlife for their safety and yours.
